Lent in Jerusalem: the Apostolic Administrator’s solemn entrance to the Holy Sepulcher
JERUSALEM – On Saturday, March 11, 2017, as a tradition during Lent, the Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate, Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, made a solemn entry into the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher prior to leading the procession of the Franciscans in venerating the different places related to the Passion of Christ.
During the season of Lent, every Saturday is marked by a solemn procession in the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher. It is to continue this tradition, inherited from the status quo that governs the Holy Place, that Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, made this solemn entry into the Basilica.
Preceded by the Franciscans and followed by a multitude of faithful, many priests and seminarians from Beit Jala, and presided by Archbishop Pizzaballa, the procession stopped in front of the symbolic places of the Passion of Christ for a moment of prayer. This ceremony will be repeated every Saturday of Lent and presided by a representative from the Latin Patriarchate. It is an opportunity for a solemn commemoration of the Passion during this time.
