Italian General Consul visits 3rd Solidarity Housing project and Catholic Scouts Center
JERUSALEM/ BETHLEHEM – On Monday, June 6, 2016, General Consul of Italy in Jerusalem Mr. David La Cecilia and his delegation visited the 3rd Solidarity Housing project in Sharafat – Bet Safafa and John the Baptist Catholic Scouts Centre in Bethlehem.
The 3rd Solidarity Housing project, which is located in Sharafat-Bet Safafa, comprises 80 apartments that were licensed and built on 4 phases in a period of 9 years. The project was an initiative of a group of families who personally financed it. The project was funded by The Government of Italy as well, through working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), within the framework of facilitating access to infrastructure residence.
Afterwards, the Italian General Consul and Most Rev. Bishop William Shomali, Patriarchal Vicar for Jerusalem and Palestine, headed to John the Baptist Catholic Scouts Centre in Bethlehem where they were greeted by the Terra Sancta marching band in the presence of Fr. Ibrahim Shomali, the spiritual leader of John the Baptist Catholic Scouts, and other Scouts groups.
During the visit, Bishop Shomali expressed his gratitude to all those who helped realize these two projects by awarding the medal of Distinction of the Latin Patriarchate. The people were: the General Consul of Italy; Mr. Vincenzo Racalbuto, the Director of Italian Development Cooperation Agency in Jerusalem; Mr. Roberto Valent, Special Representative of the UNDP administrator in Palestine; Mr. Sami El-Yousef, the Director of Pontifical Mission; Mr. Raffoul Rofa, Director of Society of St. Yves; Mr. Mazen Qobti, Latin Patriarchate advocate; Mr. Simone Kouba, the project’s engineer and Mr. Anton Asfar, chief financial officer at LPJ.
The visit was concluded with the playing of the Palestinian National anthem and enjoying refreshing drinks and delicious snacks.
