Mass in celebration of Priesthood at St. Mary of Nazareth Church in Jordan
AMMAN – On Thursday April 28, 2016, His Beatitude Fouad Twal presided over a Mass in celebration of Priesthood at Saint Mary of Nazareth Church in Sweifieh.
In his homily, the Patriarch spoke about the mentality and spirit that every priest must have. For this Jubilee Year of Mercy, this spirit goes hand in hand with Jesus mercy as the impetus to determination and strength for pastoral ministry and evangelization. In living this mercy, a priest can spread God’s mercy through the Sacraments and caring for the faithful especially the ones who are suffering, marginalized and most in need.
His Beatitude added that priests must live in a spirit of readiness and openness to do God’s will, and to willingly forego everything at any time in His service. After the homily, the priests renewed their vows.
A group of Knights of the Holy Sepulchre from England and Wales, accompanied by the Lieutenant, Dr. David Smith attended the Mass. Also present was a number of men and women religious from different communities and priests from Palestine and Lebanon who came to help the parish priests during the Holy Week.
Lunch followed where priests and Knights of the Holy Sepulchre celebrated the anniversary of the priestly ordination of Archbishop Alberto Ortega, Archbishop Maroun Lahham, Patriarchal Vicar in Jordan and Msgr. Roberto Kona, Counselor of the Nunciature.
