Spiritual retreat for the Latin Patriarchate’s employees in Haifa
HAIFA – On Friday March 4, 2016, the employees of the Latin Patriarchate participated in a spiritual retreat in St. Joseph’s Latin Parish in Haifa.
In the framework of the Year of Mercy, the Latin Patriarchate employees participated in a spiritual retreat in St. Joseph’s Latin Parish in Haifa. The group was welcomed by Fr. Abdo Abdo, Fr. Samer Haddad and Sr. Rita Nasrallah for a day of reflection on God’s Mercy and at the same time to take a break from the pressure of daily work.
“Be Merciful just as your Father is Merciful” is the theme of the conference that Fr. Samer Haddad presented for the day of recollection. He spoke about Mercy in both the Old and New Testaments. “In the Old Testament, and during the Babylon Exile, the Jewish people lived a unique experience. The Exile was the result of the people’s sins and of pushing God away”. He continued “while in Babylon, they had the opportunity to reflect and examine their conscience and then realize that they are experiencing God’s mercy towards them”. In the New Testament, Fr. Haddad pointed out that “Mercy lies in Christ and His actions, miracles, suffering and death for all of mankind; for in His miracles we experience and live Christ’s Mercy towards others”. He also said that “solidarity is an act of Mercy as Jesus stood in solidarity with mankind when he became human, lived and suffered in His life”.
After the conference, the employees participated in the mass presided by Fr. Haddad in the Church. In his homily, he emphasized that despite people’s sins, God had sent his Son to save the world and through the Holy Eucharist, God offers us the highest level of Mercy.
