Opening of the renovated Bethlehem University Library
BETHLEHEM – On Wednesday, February 24, 2016, after almost a year of renovation work, Bethlehem University re-opened its library in the presence of His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto , Apostolic Delegate, and several other guests.
After the Palestinian national anthem was played, guests were welcomed by Dr. Michael Sansur, Executive Vice President and Br. Peter Bray, Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University who spoke about the special place and role the library has had since its establishment in 1977. He thanked the benefactors, architects and all those who worked hard to ensure the completion of this project.
Mr. Thomas Staal, USAID-ASHA representative, congratulated the University for reaching this milestone, from its humble beginnings in 1973, with less than 400 students, to this day, with an enrollment of more than 4,000 students.
Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, Apostolic Delegate and Chancellor of Bethlehem University, Mr Fuad Kattan, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Professor Bart McGettrick, Chairperson of the International Board of Regents talked about the characteristics of a Catholic and Lasallian University, followed by the Blessing of the Library by Patriarch Fouad Twal.

McGettrick; Sister Irene O’Neill, Chairperson of the Bethlehem University Foundation; Mr. Thomas Staal; and His Beatitude Fouad Twal, assisted in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. A tour of the state-of-the-art library facilities and a reception followed.
