The Albanian Prime Minister meets His Beatitude Fouad Twal
Jerusalem – On Monday December 21, 2015, an Albanian delegation was received by H.B. Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.
The delegation headed by Mr Edi Rama, Albanian Prime Minister since 2013, was received by H.B. Fouad Twal, Mgr William Shomali, Patriarchal Vicar for Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, and Mgr Kamal Bathish, Auxiliary Bishop & Emeritus Patriarchal Vicar.
Together they talked about the difficult situation of Christians in the Middle East, as well as the overall situation in the Holy Land. The Prime Minister spoke about the trip of the Pope to Albania on 21st September 2014. The first trip to Europe in Pope Francis Pontificate – which ran under the theme of existence among religions – was highly acclaimed in this country where Christian community represents only 15 % of a Muslim majority population.
The Patriarch offered Mr Edi Rama an icon of Our Lady of Jerusalem. The Prime Minister then offered the Patriarch a statue of Mother Theresa, born in Albania; her Canonization was announced officially few days ago.
