Lighting of Christmas Tree in Nazareth: a sign of unity and mercy
Jaffa of Nazareth – On December 12th , 2015 Mgr Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, Patriarchal Vicar for Israel, Fr Elias Tabban, parochial priest, and Mr Emran Kananeh, Mayor, lit up the huge Christmas tree in the square of the Latin Parish Church, in presence of different communities and amidst a large crowd of Christian and Muslim faithful.
The evening started with a lively feast for children and a concert of Christmas carols at the church. Christmas bazaar was opened in the Church courtyard, accompanied by a Scouts parade and fireworks.
The event was jointly organized by the parish priest, the Rosary Sisters, the parish council and the school management. They proposed an evening rich in pastoral and social initiatives, helped by many young people and backed by an impressive number of benefactors. All expenses – Christmas tree, decorations, gifts for children, fixing the bazaar, fireworks, etc – were covered by donors.
Mgr Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo pointed out in his welcoming speech that the Christmas tree is indeed a “tree of mercy, with 14 branches, the acts of spiritual and bodily mercy”.
