Filipinos of El Shaddai in Haifa for their annual holiday
Haifa : On November 28th, 2015 Filipino immigrants of El- Shaddai Movement celebrated their annual holiday.
Close to 40 000 Filipino immigrants now live and work in Israel. Some of them near Haifa are part of an Apostolic Movement El-Shaddai. Different groups from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Nazareth gather every year for the Advent vigil at the Church of Haifa, already decorated with Christmas colors.
A mass was celebrated in the Church, followed by an evening of prayer, of singing and testimony. Heads of the Movement come from as far as the Philippines every year to attend the ceremony and to keep up the relationship with Filipinos in Israel. The evening ended with a friendly meal, the “Filipino” way.
This year, Fr Abdo Abdo and Mrs Editha Mendoza, chairwoman of the movement in Israel, invited Mgr. Giacinto Boulos Marcuzzo to preside over the day. Mass was concelebrated by Fr John, ocd, in charge of the Filipino community. A representative of the Ambassador of the Philippines was also present. The “Filipino Choir of the ND of Valor Center” animated the evening by singing and encouraged the fellowship.
In his homily, Mgr Marcuzzo referred to the season of Advent and the next Jubilee Year about Mercy, and also about the message of the Pope for immigrants. He congratulated members of the association for this Christian testimony which they generally give in houses where they are employed and encouraged them to keep up their commitment.
After mass, according to Filipino tradition, faithful received a person blessing from the hands of the Bishop and of clergy.
