Mass at the Patriarchate on All Souls’ Day
JERUSALEM – On Tuesday, November 3, 2015, Mass at the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem was celebrated for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
The Mass was presided by His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, and con-celebrants were: Bishop William Shomali, Patriarchal Vicar for Jerusalem and Palestine; Bishop Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, Patriarchal Vicar for Israel, Bishop Maroun Lahham, Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan, Father David Neuhaus SJ, Patriarchal Vicar for Hebrew-speaking Catholics, Bishop Kamal Bathish, Emeritus Patriarchal Vicar, with a number of priests. The local faithful and staff of the Latin Patriarchate and other Catholic institutions were present.
In his homily, Patriarch Twal spoke of holiness, lived in everyday life, often hidden, such as “mothers experiencing difficulties and deserving of the ‘status holy’. He added: “We have saints who are in heaven, and at the same time saints who live among us, our brothers, sisters and friends. Holiness is walking according to God’s will, living in faith and being true to God’s commandment of love.”
The Patriarch continued: “Death is something frightening and mystifying because we cannot see it. And it is something that awaits us all. In these difficult days, we should thank God for our loved ones who died at home, surrounded by families and friends. This is a grace from God, because they were able to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. “
At the end of Mass, all the celebrants, priests and faithful went down to the crypt of the Church, where all the deceased Patriarchs are buried.
