England and Wales Knights of the Holy Sepulcher on a visit to the Latin Patriarchate

England and Wales Knights of the Holy Sepulcher on a visit to the Latin Patriarchate

JERUSALEM – A delegation of the Knights of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher from England and Wales on pilgrimage in the Holy Land made a courtesy visit to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

On Friday October 23, The Latin Patriarchate had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation of English lieutenancy from the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem headed by Dr David Smith, the England and Wales Lieutenant.

The visit started with a mass presided by Mgr Tom Burns, bishop of the diocese of Menevia, west of Wales. Then Bishop William Shomali welcomed the group for a discussion on the current situation in the Holy Land. He talked about the root of tension that is tearing the country into pieces mentioning the hardship of the Palestinian youth. Moreover, he warned against religious fanaticism that uses religion as a pretext of war and violence. Then, Bishop Shomali called on to pray for Jerusalem affirming that “we should continue to have hope”. At the end of the visit, the knights recited the Angelus prayer with the employees of the Patriarchate.

The England and Wales Knights of the Holy Sepulcher are in the Holy Land for their annual pilgrimage, where the new knights received the pilgrim’s shell, a reminder of their christening and a symbol of their affiliation to the Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
