East patriarchs leave for Erbil to support steadfast Christians

Les patriarches en IraqMiddle East – A group of several Eastern Patriarchs decided to leave today, the 20th of august 2014, to Erbil, and spend the day alongside the persecuted christian population in Iraq.

Patriarchs Beshara Rai, Gregory III Laham, Youssef III Younan, Ignatius Ephrem, headed on Wednesday, August 20, to Baghdad with plans to leave for Erbil at a later time.

The patriarchs will meet upon their arrival with Chaldean Patriarch Louis Raphael I Sako.

The patriarchs are scheduled to meet with senior officials in Kurdish region and inspect the condition of displaced Iraqi Christians. The delegation is expected to spend two days in Iraq and spend at least eight hours with refugees.
