New Franciscan ordinations

New Franciscan ordinations

29062013-DSC02036 (1)JERUSALEM – Saturday, June 29, 2013. His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Latin Patriairch of Jerusalem, ordained six Franciscan priests and seven deacons at St. Saviour’s Monastery in Jerusalem. It was a day of great joy and excitement for all in attendance and for the Church of the Holy Land.

In an unforgettable celebration, the new priests and deacons were surrounded by their families and friends, many of whom came from far away. Also in present were many priests and religious from the diocese and from abroad. The celebration was the crowning of many years of study and sacrifice and the starting point of a new phase of their lives; one that puts them in the humble and joyful service of the Church.

Patriarch Twal spoke to those being ordained with encouraging words, urging them to give their lives to the people entrusted to their pastoral ministry by forming a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. In his homily, the Patriarch made numerous references to the ministry and teaching of Pope Francis, describing the most important features of the young priest: mercy, compassion, kindness, loyalty and patience! He concluded his homily with a request from the young priests; to hold the Mother Church of Jerusalem in their minds and hearts and to maintain the relationship and devotion which they have made with the Holy Land throughout their preparation to the priesthood.

Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, Apostolic Delegate of Jerusalem and the recently re-confirmed Custos of the Holy Land, the Very Rev. Pierbattista Pizzaballa concelebrated, accompanied by more than a hundred priests.
