Cardinal Sandri visits Syrian refugees at Our Lady of Peace Center
AMMAN – Cardinal Sandri continued his visits in Jordan. After the inauguration of the University of Madaba (here his speech in English) in the presence of King Abdullah II and Patriarch Fouad Twal, the Cardinal, on Friday, May 31, went to Our Lady of Peace Center in Amman to meet Syrian refugees.
On May 31, 2013, the Center Our Lady of Peace (COLOP) welcomed Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. The Center, under the direction of Fr. Imad Twal of the Latin Patriarchate, offers a range of medical, social and educational support services to young people with disabilities. It is located in the City of Naour, a few kilometers south of Amman, the Jordanian capital.
His Eminence was accompanied by Archbishop Giorgio Lingua, Apostolic Nuncio to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and by Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, Apostolic Nuncio in Jerusalem. During his visit, Cardinal Sandri expressed solidarity with the Christians of the Middle East and prayed for peace throughout the region. He time prayed in a special way with each of the refugee families staying at the Center, asking God to bless and protect them and to restore peace and stability in their country.
Cardinal Sandri is deeply concerned about the deteriorating situation in Syria and hopes for the immediate cessation of all hostilities and for the security of displaced persons and refugees. All those present were very grateful for the visit of the Cardinal, who, as the personal representative of Pope Francis, shared and offered a spirit of communion with the Christian communities of Jordan.
