Senseless provocations and retaliations in Libya
LIBYA. – In a press release dated September 13, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem strongly condemns the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi (Libya), and the movie that denigrates the Muslims. The Patriarchate denounces acts of violence that promotes hatred and prevents interfaith coexistence.
On September 11, the US consulate in Benghazi was attacked with rockets by Salafists, wounding five and killing four people, including the ambassador.
September 11 is a date that sadly recalls the horror of terrorism eleven years ago. The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem condemns these acts of violence, and expresses deep sorrow and offers prayers for the victims, their families and the American people.
It is believed that a trigger for the attack was the film “The Innocence of Muslims” and the way the movie portrayed the Muslims. As Christians and supporters of interreligious dialogue, we do not tolerate and accept this senseless provocation that goes against respect for different religions, and offends the dignity of Muslims.
