Patriarch Fouad Twal sends message on the occasion of Eid El Fitr

In an address given  1st at the Catholic Center for Studies and Media in Amman on August, His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem expressed his best wishes and that of the Diocese of the Latin Patriarchate to our Moslem brethrens on the occasion of  Eid El Fitr (end of the month of fasting of Ramadan). It is an opportunity, he said, to strengthen the ties of goodwill and understanding among us as one people and one Arab nation who share common concerns,  suffer the same sorrows and harbor the same aspirations while we all worship the One and the  same God.

I have the pleasure, he said, as Latin Patriarch of the Holy City and as the son of this Holy Land to call for continued ties of amity among us as called for by the Holy Books that we hold sacred. He carried on to say that from this Holy Land we wish to continue to impart the good example of coexistence since “amity is the fulfillment of the law” whereas Jesus Christ summarized the Ten Commandments with the following words “the love of God and neighbor.” He cited the internecine bloodshed in Syria and expressed the hope that that would come to an end. He concluded by calling upon the Almighty to help us make peace and to pursue the path of understanding so that we all get to be the good and worthy children of God who reject violence, particularly among brethren, as we recall the words of the prophet Isaiah “And they shall forge their swords into plowshares, and their spears into sickles. Nation will not lift up sword against nation.” (2:4)

His Beatitude then reiterated the good wishes for Eid El Fitr.
