Bethlehem University to Welcome Highest Ranking Official of De La Salle Christian Brothers, Brother Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría, FSC, Superior General
What: Brother Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría, FSC, Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, will tour Bethlehem University and be honored with an honorary doctorate, in appreciation of his devotion to Bethlehem University and it’s staff, faculty, and students. The Ambassador of Costa Rica, His Excellency Rodrigo Carreras, will attend the ceremony.
Why: Br. Álvaro last visited Bethlehem University in 2004 and noted the University for its special and important role in providing a place for faithful Christian and Muslim Palestinian students to engage in self development and nation building, in an atmosphere of faith, respect, and dialogue. As a supporter of Lasallian education, Br. Álvaro – in partnership with Bethlehem University – plays a key role in the development of Palestine’s university students and graduates, who are widely employed in many sectors throughout Palestine, the Middle East, and beyond.
As the highest official in the order of the De La Salle Christian Brothers, it is tradition for the Superior General to tour all regions of the Lasallian educational system under his stewardship, of which Bethlehem University and the Frères School are part. This visit is part of Br. Alvaro’s tour of the Middle East region. Re-elected to the position in 2007, Br. Álvaro is the 26th successor to Saint John Baptiste de La Salle, founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
